Our son has been on a low dose of Ritalin since Wed. of last week. We haven't noticed any major changes but he has had two trouble fee days of Kindergarten. I'll take it. This medication seems to be just enough to let him settle down in class and learn what his teacher is trying to teach. Yes it has only been two days of school, but my wife and I are hopeful that this is helping.

After over a week of my son on Ritalin I've begun to see patterns in his behavior and some side effects I want to talk about. First, the stuff works. We've had a week of good reports from his kindergarden teacher and that is amazing in itself. Though his behavior hasn't been perfect (and I wouldn't expect that) , overall there is a marked improvement in his ability to sit still and concentrate in class. My wife, my son and I are seeing the pediatrician today. We are going to a "consultation session." That means we sit down and talk with her and then, I guess, mutually agree that our son goes on medication for ADHD or not. Never looked forward to this day. In some way I feel like we are giving up. My son got kicked out of after school care today. The day started out bad with him getting sent to the principal's office during his morning kindergarden class. From there he got in an altercation with another boy at Ycare (after school care). This was his last strike, so he's out. It has built up to this.
